Website Idea

My idea for a website is to allow people to rent puppies from owners for a day. This website will allow dog owners in your area to be able to put when they need someone to take care of their dog as needed. It also provides people without a dog to be able to take care of one whenever they please. It’s audience will be determined by your current location and a 15 mile radius. This can be aimed towards families and college students and will be based on trustworthiness through signing a waiver to ensure that the dog owner’s dog will be returned.

The Return

This video was shown to me a couple of years ago, and it has stuck in my memory because of how emotional it is. Talking on your phone and texting while driving is a major issue we have in our society today, and many people do not realize how your actions can affect other people.

This video shows what is happening through the perspective of a teenage boy, and a mother and her son. There are many close up shots used to show each persons emotions throughout the whole video. At the beginning, all characters are portrayed as happy and care-free. Once they get in the car, over the shoulder shots are used to show their point of view. While the mother and her son are in the car, it shows the young boy showing his mom his report card. It then shows the teenage boy talking on the phone, and naturally when you talk on the phone you’re most likely not paying close attention. This was the point that I originally thought there was going to be a wreck. But it get’s worse. After the teenage boy gets off his phone he drops it, and he immediately begins to look for it on his floor board taking his eyes completely off the road. During this time, the young boy and his mother have safely arrived at their house, the mother walks over to get the mail out of the mailbox while her son is waiting in the driveway. The next angle that is shown shows the teenage boy’s point of view which is him looking down trying to find his phone, once he looks up he begins swerving but it is too late. He has hit the son’s mother and a medium shot is shown on the boy holding his mom. At the end, you realize that this video is showing the teenage boys memory of what happened that day. It’s shows how this has affected him, and he goes to the young boys house and apologizes to him.

This video does an excellent job portraying each characters emotions throughout the video. It also makes you feel like you were actually there by going back and forth between both sides of the story. The video also does a great job intertwining the teenage boys after thoughts and showing him go back and apologizing. All 5-points were used very well, and did a great job engaging you into the video.

Five-point method

Five-point method

For this project, I was capturing the image of someone getting soft-serve ice cream. I did this by first shooting a full body image of my subject at an angle from behind, so my audience could get a bigger picture of what she was doing. I then shot a medium shot closer to her body to capture her serving the ice cream. My next angle was a close up of her face to capture her emotions while doing so. This was following by a close up on her hands and the cone that was being served to portray what was going on. My last shot was from an angle behind her shoulder to share my subjects point of view with my audience. I did all of these angles by keeping the 180-degree rule in mind and stayed on the same side of the action.

Being from Texas, Whataburger is the main fast food restaurant that I grew up going to. It was the perfect place to go hang out with your friends after a sporting event. As I got older, Whataburger was also where my friends and I would go to grab food after a late night out (as it was conveniently open 24/7).

Even though Whataburger is not nearly as popular in Louisiana as it is in Texas, they still do a great job connecting with their customers through social media. Their TV commercials are short and straight to the point, they make you crave it by showing a clip of their food. Their verified Twitter account has almost 200K followers, and they follow back 133K of those followers. Not only do they tweet continuously throughout the day, but they also retweet and reply to tweets they are mentioned in. Their tweets are funny and engage customers to keep them interested.

Whataburger also engages with their customers by constantly updating their Instagram and Facebook accounts. They post pictures of their food, new menu items, and pictures of satisfied customers. This does an excellent job keeping customers involved by keeping them updated, as well as portraying that customers are satisfied with their product.

The only thing that I would suggest Whataburger doing differently is making online giveaway promotions. This includes posting about  receiving giftcards if you retweet their tweet, or even a contest to win a free meal. They could even post coupons online that you have to bring in with you in order to get either a free meal or dessert.

Newspaper design vs. Magazine design

For my newspaper design, I used the layout of rectangle shaped text. I believe that this is a good way to reach out to my audience. I have placed my picture at the top of the page to capture my audiences attention. My picture is followed by the photo credit. I have also included the cutline followed by the headline, I made sure that my headline matched the width of my story and did not include any hyphenations.

For my magazine design, I used a two page layout to portray my text and images. A magazine ad is not as organized as a newspaper ad, and many of the pictures are scattered throughout the page to reach out to the audience. I made my pictures all different sizes in order to wrap my text around the images. I also placed a quote in the middle of my text to make my audience feel more involved.

c’est la vie!

Getting a tattoo has always been something I have thought about doing. However, I never knew what I would actually get knowing that it would be written on me for the rest of my life. With this being said, I would want it to be something meaningful to me. This is why I chose the phrase “c’est la vie” which translates to “that’s life” for this project. I often find my friends and I saying this phrase to each other after something didn’t turn out the way we thought it would. This is a constant reminder to me that nobody is perfect and life is too short to waste time on the small things in life. I like to think that I am an optimistic person and this phrase helps me pursue that and look on the bright side of everything. This is why I chose to place the tattoo on the back of my arm because I wanted it to be in a place that other people could see it also; This would make them able to read the message and hopefully interpret it the same way as I do. I chose a cursive font because it represent a flow of connectivity and is personal and meaningful. Cursive fonts are also beautiful and soft and I think that it was the perfect style to convey for my message.
